MoDOT statement:
Work is continuing steadily on the Tower Grove project. Crews are working on the ramps for the new Tower Grove interchange, finalizing the utility work and building the retaining walls. Work has started on the outside portions of the Newstead and Taylor bridges. There are no anticipated changes on the interstate for the foreseeable future. With the narrowed and shifted lanes throughout the work zone, please remember to slow down as you travel through there.
For the Jefferson Bridge project we are well on track to be completed on the bridge and associated ramp work by early August. After the Memorial Day weekend, depending on weather, we have some Friday night lane closures scheduled to put up the girders for the new bridge. On May 31, after Cardinal fans have made it to the stadium, we plan to reduce eastbound I-64 to two lanes starting just after 8 p.m. As crews swing the new girders over the interstate, we will shut the interstate down for a short time (about 15 minutes) for safety. They should be finished with installing the new girders over eastbound I-64 early Saturday (June 1) morning. They will do the same for westbound I-64 (closing two lanes at 8 p.m. and shutting the interstate for 15 minute periods for safety) the following Friday (June 7), weather permitting. We’ll put out more information and confirmation of the lane closures as we get closer to the work.
Right now, we do not anticipate any further changes to the daily traffic patterns on I-64 at Jefferson for the next month. Crews may still close a lane in either direction weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to complete work on the interstate. At this time, we anticipate that we will have our first ramp closure to connect the new ramp to Jefferson sometime in late June or early July.
